& Small Regalia
We extend an invitation to Otahpiaaki 2017, a week-
long celebration of Indigenous Beauty, Fashion, and design based at Mount Royal University. We believe
the work of reconciliation is for neighbours and
that important conversations and teachings can be
shared through story and song, fashion, music, film,
traditional, and contemporary craft practices.
The project unfolds over the next seven years and
though we wish that each of our 760+ First Nations,
Métis and Inuit community Nations could be on the
runway this year, we’ve had to be creative about how
to make sure every Nation might be included.
On behalf of Elder Jeannie Smith Davis (Piikani/
Aakainawa) we invite members from all Nations to
send a pair of Powwow Earrings or small regalia that
one can easily fit in an envelope.
Submissions are due September 8th, 2017.
We will display all designs as a part of three Otahpiaaki Fashion Showcases, to be held beneath the Chief David Crowfoot Pillar (City Hall Atrium, Calgary Alberta). Contemporary or traditional, Tribal
Council, youth designers, or Elders, all projects are welcome.
